Technical project description:

The complex consists of two buildings, A and B. In each building there are 4 three-storey maisonettes.

Due to the special remote location in the woods in a mountainous area with severe cold on a constant basis and frequent snowfalls, a heating system had to be chosen that could cope with even the harshest weather conditions.

Also, the heating system had to provide not just any heating, but high-quality thermal comfort, such that the occupant could enjoy a distinct warmth in contrast to the wild polar landscape around him.

To this equation we had to add the degree of heating readiness of each maisonette, as these are holiday homes that the tenants may decide to come at the last minute and must find it warm.

Finally, it is understandable that the heating and domestic hot water system in such a remote environment with adverse weather conditions must have safety valves with backup systems to ensure uninterrupted operation.

And all this is to be achieved not with classic fuels, but with modern technology, environmentally friendly, pollution-free and with maximum savings.

The solution to the above difficult equation was the installation of a heat pump system from the Swedish Brand CTC, who know better than anyone what cold means.

Thus, in each of the two buildings, a pair of two EcoAir 622M heat pumps was installed, with a heating power of 22kW each, total heating power of 44kW for each building, in combination with a special heating accumulation tank-ZNX EcoZenith555 with a capacity of 550 liters.

As a backup source, an individual oil condensing unit, connected to the accumulation tank, was placed in each building.

A second back-up source of heating and DHW support is also two electric heaters, each 9kW at the top and bottom of the tank respectively, in each of the two buildings.

The tank is essentially the “brain” that manages everything. Having a touch screen controller and the wiring center on it, it receives all the commands from the thermostats of all the floors of all the maisonettes and the outside temperature and puts into operation with priority both the two heat pumps alternately or together, depending on the demand load heating, as well as the oil boiler, in case of a backup need and of course, the electric heaters if they are ever needed, at this order of priority.

Backups are automatically activated by the tank via advanced software without the user or the administrator needing to keep an eye on the weather, heating or DHW needs, or in the event of a failure of one of the heating sources.

The three floors of each maisonette are equipped with PURMO radiators in black color, while the lower floor at ground level has additionally underfloor heating also by PURMO for special comfort of the tenants. The tank supplies each maisonette separately (branches) and each floor separately (zones) through ESBE Sweden circulation units with integrated charge pumps.

The heating commands for each floor come from Danfoss weekly programmable smart touch thermostats with special aesthetics, which are wifi and the user can also manage the heating from their cell phone from wherever they are. These thermostats feature user-friendly software, frost protection and temperature accuracy, maximizing energy savings and thermal comfort.

Finally, the tank supplies domestic hot water in the showers and other hot water taps of the houses 24/7 without human intervention. As soon as a tap is turned on, the DHW is instantly heated as it passes through the tank without storage, which protects against legionella and provides plenty of fresh and healthy domestic hot water.

The Swedish know-how in heating and domestic hot water, the triple backup systems and the manufacturers' awareness to quality, environmental protection and energy management add value to the already award-winning Hermitage1310 residential complex.
